I miss Irina so much. I am proud to say that she was my gymnastics coach. i remember on my very first gymnastics meet, i was crying, but she held me in her arms and encouraged me to go out there and give it my best. I really miss her relaxing massages, her kind smiles, her coaching, the way she hugs me when i'm nervous, and much more. I will never forget Irina Gabashvili, my favorite gymnastics coach. RIP Irina

Danielle Yoshinaga:
Irina, you have been gone for many months. I wish for you everyday. Your death truly changed the world. I miss your soft voice, and melodious laugh in the gym. I miss your hugs, your kindness, and your generosity. I sincerely hope that wherever you are now, that you are happy and content, looking down over us. I miss you far more than words can express, and I miss being coached by you. I wish you were here. So many changes have happened. I've started high school, and am in many different clubs. I love you, and I miss you. <3

Mary Poteet/Roy Glass/Jennie Glass:
Dear Sergo, Dima, Eka, and the rhythmic gymnastics community, Our family would like to add our voice to the chorus of tributes and condolences on the passing of your beloved Irina. Our family knew Irina only briefly during the 2003-04 competition season at Westside Gymnastics, but it was apparent that Irina was a most special artist and coach, and we feel so fortunate that she shared her passion for rhythmic gymnastics with us. We are so very sorry for all the times that Irina did not feel well and for your great loss; we wish you strength and peace in all the days ahead.

Danielle Yoshinaga:
Irina was known throughout the world as a bright, charming, funny, intelligent, modest, and beautiful person. I had the privilege of being able to train with her for around three quarters of my life. She was such a gift to the world, and precious people like Irina come in an incredibly small amount. So many people knew of Irina, from the current world champion, Evgeniya Kanaeva, to a young girl wishing to become like our beloved Irina. Her sister, Eka is very much like Irina, and I can see, not just by looking at her, but listening to her, how much she has in common with Irina. Irina will truly be missed by the whole world.

Dear Irina, I miss you so much! You were a great coach and made everything lots of fun. You were very nice to everyone and always helped us when we made mistakes. The days you would coach us were the best days of my life. You will never be forgotten.

Lori:
Irina, I will miss our quiet times together, our prayer times together and our friendship that meant so much to me. You are my sister in Christ, and always will be in my heart. May your memory be eternal and one day we will be together again in eternity. I love you my dear friend and am glad to have had the time we shared together to keep in my heart.

Danielle :
Dearest Irina, My heart aches. You were a rare jewel that added so much sparkle to this world. Your heart radiated goodness, and your level of class was unmatched. I have always had such a deepfound respect for you, both as a gymnast and as a friend, for the selflessness and profound love you continually showed those around you. When we worked together, the time at the gym was much more than just about improvement of gymnastics technique--you taught me so much about life. I always felt that you understood the big picture in life, keeping the important things so well in perspective. At every competition we attended, I felt so proud to be your student, and looked up to your dignity and grace. You will be so sadly missed, and you will be in our hearts forever. May your memories live on, and may you rest peacefully now. My deepest sympathies to Sergo, Dima, and Ecka.

Karine:
What sad news i've just learnt about. This is really a sad sad day for the rhythmic world . She was such an expressive and lively gymnast who even after her gymnast carreer kept involved in it and brought so many things to it. All my sympathy to her family , friends , colleagues , gymnasts and everyone who loved her.

Bettina Megowan:
Oh Irina, I miss you. Seeing the pictures here on this site make me wish I could go back in time. What a wonderful person you were, how unbelievably lucky I was to find you in Malaysia and then get to know you here in the US. I will never forget the day you and your family arrived at the airport and the first weeks here in Portland. I will never forget when you went to practice the first time and I saw your beautiful movements, your arms and hands, and of course, your beautiful feet :) I love the memories of your smiling eyes and face, and your soft voice whenever I brought my baby girls to the gym. I felt proud whenever my oldest daughter was able to be coached by you, and I know that she would have loved many more hours with you. My admiration for you began when I was a little girl and has never stopped. I am thankful for all the time I got to spend with you, but I am deeply sad that it has been cut short. Your kindness is what stands out when I think of you. May you rest peacefully now, after this long and hard struggle you had to go through. I will always carry you with me in my memories.

Ella Begelfor:

We will always remember you.

Laura Lyman:
You are one of the most generous, self-less people I know. You believed in everything we could do as gymnasts even when we ourselves could not see it. No matter what, you never gave-up on a gymnast, including me. I loved you dearly as a coach, though more importantly, as a person. Anyone who met you, loved you, for being so warm. That in itself has changed my life for the better. That in itself has left a grateful place in all of our hearts. Thank you again, our beautiful Irina.

Vivian Diane Eastman:
The last time I saw Irina was when we were coming home after Ready or Not in November. I had fallen asleep in the back seat, when I woke up Irina was telling Wuling about when she was a gymnast for the Soviet Union how she had bought candies (forbidden) and had put them in her cap to sneak them in to share with her teammates, and then about someone telling her she needed to gain weight or she would never get a husband, and her friend told her to ignore the comment and keep doing what she was doing. That is the legacy she leaves us, that if we take care of each other and remain faithful to what we are doing and we will see all our hearts desires come to pass. Although I will miss her, I know she will always be in my heart and my thoughts.

Julia Brown-Gratcheva:
We were all so lucky and blessed to know you, Irina - an extraordinary talent and extraordinary human being.

Candace Anguish:
Dearest Irina- You are such a gentle spirit yet full of fight. Your presence has always been friendly and strong and always accompanied with a smile, hug or best wish for someone you knew. Your elegance and grace always astounded me as you fought so hard. Your smile had always lit up a room, and warmed my heart. Anyone who knows you, sees that smile you would shine whenever you were around. I know that will be something I will miss dearly and hold deep in my heart. Your love for our sport, rhythmic gymnastics, was always showing through your choreography. Your beauty is timeless, God broke the mold when he created you. May God bless you with your angel wings, for you have been an angel here on earth for so long... you deserve them! I will miss you greatly and think ofyou often! Love Always, Candace (Candy) Anguish Seattle, WA

Cindy Lord:
Irina Gabashvili was my friend. She had a big heart. Like many who called her friend, I was honored with her friendship and kindness. She was a fantastic mother to Dima and partner to Sergo. Just the thought of her mother Yulia, sister Ekka, and her nephew Vasso could bring her great delight. She was a great gymnast and super coach. I was telling a friend about my friend Irina. She asked me what Irina was like. I thought for a bit and because she was a very complex person I did not know where to begin. Then it hit me. Much of who Irina was could be explained by the simple fact that she was an amazing choreographer. Spend just a bit of time with her and you knew she always had a song in her just waiting to come out. She would hum in shopping malls and airports, in planes and cars. I think she could see music. She could be inspired by all types of music. and knew just how to make the music come alive. Any composer would be proud at what she could do with their music. Some of her choreography was quite challenging and because she was always up for a challenge she thought her gymnasts were too. Sometime it took years to perfect the movements she would ask her gymnasts to do but the challenge made them stronger. If you ever had Ira do choreography for you, you were very lucky indeed. Irina had many challenges in her own life. She handled them all with strong character and integrity. She taught my daughter, Danielle, about character and integrity too. Danielle is a better person today because she had Irina as a coach. I am a better person because I had Irina as a friend.
